So many of our travelers can testify to how fulfilling and exciting new assignments can be, and yet those first few days at your first assignment (or even new assignments) can often result in butterflies. After all, you have some serious work ahead, procedures to learn, facilities to get familiar with, and colleagues to get to know – it can all seem like a lot! But have no fear! You got this, and like we said before we’re here to support you!
Calm yourself with the following traveler tips and positive affirmations.
We know this sounds super cheesy and simple but remember to keep on smiling! A pleasant demeanor shows you welcome change, plus your new colleagues are more likely to offer their help. With new procedures to learn and equipment to get familiar with, you’ll want to make friends along the way. Your fellow healthcare professionals are the ones to brief you on everything from patients and supervisors to helping you remember where the bathrooms are and where you parked your car.
Affirmation: This hospital chose me.
Whenever you start a new assignment, you must remember that the hospital chose you just as much as you choose the hospital. We work with some of the best hospitals in America and competition is fierce for these assignments. Guess what that means, they picked you over all the other applicants! They knew that you’d be a great fit with their current staff and that you can negotiate the learning curve that comes with any new travel assignment.
Affirmation: I enjoy sharing my interests and hobbies with others
It’s always a great idea to share your pastimes and hobbies with your colleagues because, with any luck, a local might know where the best of everything is! Or even better, you might meet someone with the same interests and want to go on these new adventures with you!
DON’T FORGET! Take a deep breath and enjoy the moment!
This is one of the most important parts, things in the medical field move very fast so you might forget! Orientation is the best time to ask all the questions you must get clarification on procedures, facility layout, and more! After all, no one really knows everything on the first day. As always, we are here to support you through your journey and are only a phone call away! We hope you have found this article helpful!
